Ideas I'm Grappling With March 9, 2023
It's Thursday, and here we go again. I'm telling you what I'm working on to inspire you to tell me what you worked on. This week I practiced my onboarding of an idea spark into my ZK. For 6 of the ten new notes this week, I used the following workflow to get ideas for the stages they are at. Practice exposed a few gaps in… -
[Request] Don't highlight omnibar text when doing a saved search?
I use The Archive for my productivity system as well as my Zettelkasten. I'm regularly using saved searches for things like #Inbox, #Project, #Next, etc. When I hit Cmd-2 to show my list of projects, I would then love to search IN that list. But if I start typing, I erase the "#Project" in the omnibar, because it's… -
Hey Siri...
So I use The Archive + Dropbox for everything (Plus 1Writer for iOS). Does anyone know a creative way to get "Hey Siri" to create a note for me? * I know iOS Shortcuts can create the note in 1Writer, but I still have to type the content. * I'd like a hands-free way to use Siri while driving to add a text file with "#inbox"… -
Holy crap, Keyboard Maestro is the JAM
I'd seen folks like @Will post about Keyboard Maestro before, and I thought it seemed like too much. But holy crap I feel like I've cracked the efficiency code with this thing. It super-charges The Archive, and kind of everything else. If you're a KM user, what are your favorite macros? Some of my favorites right now: *… -

Re: For Obsidian users, do you divide your permanent notes in folders?
Although Obsidian has a very quick search spanning the entire archive as if it were a flat list of notes, it could be beneficial to have big categories to separate fleeting notes (the inbox) from permanent notes (your own) and literature/reference notes (others'). I use the "Auto Mover" plugin to triage automatically notes… -

Re: My Productivity System with The Archive [Video]
Hi. Great video! I am still getting my head around the app, and I'm getting the impression that it's one of those apps that is very simple on the surface, but is deceptively powerful...the magic comes from how you use it. Probably a dumb question, but when you create a new note using the Quick Entry shortcut, how do you… -
Re: Hey Siri...
@Jeremy Your tips about dictate and append were so helpful. I was able to build a shortcut that adds dictated text #inbox To a file I created in my Zettelkasten Dropbox folder called *Hey Siri.txt Now that file ONLY shows up in my Inbox saved search when there’s something in it. Once I’ve dealt with the item, I delete… -
Saved search and keyboard shortcuts
Just a few notes of my experience in case it's of any help to anyone else… I've been using The Archive for a few weeks now and initially thought I wouldn't have a use for Saved Searched. That's changing. I've now got four saved searches that work really well with how I use The Archive and keep notes generally. They are…
