"How to Read XY" - The strange 3rd part of "How to Read a Book"

Dear Zettlers,

I am finishing my processing of the third part on how to read the various genres of non-fiction.

It seems to me that this section should be retitled as "Our basic view on the philosophy of XY (social science, history etc.)" I can't get anything out of the whole part.

Did you get something out of the third part?

  • I’ve only read two chapters from part three: 13. How to read practical books, and 19. How to read social science.

    Quotes from chapter 13:

    • “Nothing but practice solves practical problems.” - p.189
    • There are books about principles and books about rules. - p. 193
    • “The emotions cannot be left out. - p.193
    • “The “personality” of the author is more important in the case of practical books than theoretical.” - p. 194

    Quotes from chapter 19:

    • “You cannot understand a book if you refuse to hear what it is saying.” - p. 294
    • “Social science needs to be read syntopically. - p. 298
