Zettelkasten Forum

Hello, Introducing Myself

Let me introduce myself. I have a background as an engineering physicist, systems engineer, and programmer. So I tend to think about systems (yes, a Zettelkasten is a system) with an eye to what activities the system is to support, what is the minimum required functionality needed to provide that support, how it will interact with the user, and so on. In the case of a ZK, it's important to understand what kind of support a user can expect and so I've been giving that a lot of thought too.

I developed my first ancestral near-ZK over 20 years ago. I'm now up to the third generation and it has evolved into a fully fledged ZK. I emphasize extreme simplicity of operation, very low cognitive friction, surfacing implicit semantics for good collocation capability, easy navigation, and making sure that all one's data can be easily exported in a text file that is easy to read and parse so as to avoid getting trapped in one system.

I enjoy reading about how other people approach their ZK work and would like to share what I've learned.

Welcome to the forum! We'd like to hear about your experiences and learnings - feel free to share.

By the by, my oldest daughter is in the same field (engineering physics) - graduated from UBC many years ago and easily the smartest person in our family
