Theming links?

Is it possible to theme the text of the link, separately from the URL of the link?

ie, I would like the text inside the brackets to be bolded, and the URL inside the parentheses to be lightened.

  • Clarification: I've been editing the provided themes, and am quite comfortable doing so. But I'm not seeing a way to address the inner text of the link specifically.

  • For inline links like [text](http://url.com/) there currently is no separation besides the nested optional syntax block that will color the parentheses. I'm working on themes anyway at the moment, so I'll notify you once I added this!

    Thanks!

  • @ctietze Any chance this was added in the latest release?

  • Not yet: that'll follow with a few other theme style changes I want to bundle up into 1 update (so that themes don't have to be updated as much)

  • Any chance this will make it into the new multi-markdown editor?

  • Once compatibility with all the old stuff is confirmed to be fully there, extensions to themes will roll out.

  • Thought I might resurface this idea, since the new overhaul is being planned.

The original thought behind this was to move more in the direction of how Bear handled markdown links. Something like [this](@) — where the url is obscured by a symbol when not being edited. This is closer to how HTML works, after all, so it seems appropriate in that way. And just better for reading and skimming.

However, I realized that feature might raise some other problems, so I thought that a difference in emphasis or font-weight would be sufficient to visually achieve some separation between human-readable text and urls. Merely allowing the themes to play with this distinction would enable an expanded set of options and explorations here.

  • There is a highly cleaned up mode planned for version 2 to truly move towards a distraction-free work environment. I think our solution will be even a tad cleaner and calmer. :)
