  • The chapter about reading for your Zettelkasten gets more attention:

    I am a Zettler

  • The last round of editing has started. I found a couple of sections that I still can improve considerably.

After the book, I will likely invest a couple of weeks into improving my English writing skills. There is a striking contrast when I explain ideas verbally and in written word in English that is not present in German, though I am, too, a better speaker than writer in German. This is striking because of my very German influenced way of speaking.

  • Draft is developing nicely. I think publishing in the end of the year gets unrealistic. But I was able to improve the manuscript so far by a big margin.

I think one of the biggest weaknesses of this book is that I don't have a specific reader profile in mind. I focus on putting all the information in that I believe should be known.

Publication anxiety kicks in mildly. :)

  • I have just a couple of sections to edit. There will be a lot more illustrations.

I am wondering which one will be the next book project. I might continue with the habit book. However, having been through the translation process, I might translate my German book on the way of living.

  • Last chapter (The Knowledge Work Assembly Line) that needs some care. The other two chapters are much shorter and don't need so much editing.

The editing phase is coming to an end.

  • edited December 2025

Almost finished. No hard chapters, no long chapters. Nothing is left that requires hard work.

The only laborious task category now is to create all the additional visualisations that I planned for this version which is definitely not just a translation, but a complete upgrade.

Next week, I will start to upload the chapters, so the beta reading phase can start.

  • Major edit is finished.

Now, just some finishing touches and I can continue to the next phase.

  • Preparing the documents for the beta readers. Quite laborious.

Rough date for when the translation will be published? Thank you for the ongoing updates.

    Officially, this year.... :disappointed:

But I am tad late. I am expecting to have a beta ready version this month and then it should be a matter of weeks. So, I am late, but not awefully late.

    I am a Zettler

  • Roughly 90 pages are now prepared for the beta process.

    I am a Zettler

  • Excellent, Sascha!

  • 163 pages prepared for the beta.

  • All content is set up. Now, the last step is to incorporate the images. There are a lot more images in this edition. So, I will have to resort to sketching that I will beautify when I create the PDF.

    I am a Zettler

  • First 40 pages are beta readable. When I am at 100 pages, beta will start.

    I am a Zettler

  • 64 pages

    I am a Zettler

  • Crossed the rubicon. Today, I will have prepared 138 pages for the beta.

    I am a Zettler

  • First 23 pages of the manuscript are now locked!

    I am a Zettler

  • Next 49 pages are almost free of issues (as identified by the beta readers -> Many thanks!)

In what way is the structure or form of your forthcoming work similar to or different from Bob Doto's text? Naturally, there will be parallels.

You will be surprised how little overlap there is between these two books. Bob focuses on explaining the technical how-to of a system that is very faithful to Luhmann's original setup and work. I derive practice from general principles. That means that I focus much more on foundational knowledge on principles of knowledge work.

So, the content is quite different.

The structure is different, too. The structure of Bob's book is based on procedure (Capture, Reading Notes, Notes in Zettelkasten, Connecting, Writing) and with a goal of writing. ("A System For Writing")

I focus much more on how to treat ideas and work with them within the system.

That means that I start with the focus on the Zettelkasten note as a container for an idea. I then move on how to handle the complexity of the Zettelkasten via structure notes. Lastly, I explain on how to integrate the Zettelkasten into one's overall workflow (how to write with the Zettelkasten is one part of it).

So, the structure is also very different.

  • I can't wait 👏

  • Any news of a release date for the English translation? Very much looking forward to it.

I was confident that I would be much further in the process. So, I retreat to just updating about the process.

Currently, 125 pages of ~200 are free of major issues. So, we are making good progress.
