Swimming with Ideas
This is yet another opportunity to share what you are working on with your friends here on the forum. Add to this discussion by telling us about your zettelkasten journey. Share with us what you’re learning. Sharing helps us clarify our goals and visualize our thinking. And sometimes, a conversation sparks a magical moment where we can dive into an idea worth exploring. I’d love to hear more from you. 🫵🏼
Do you want to do a live one-on-one video chat with me about our adventures in Zettelkasting? Ping me at @Will, and we can schedule a time.
Here is my report on why I’m here and my current ZK work themes and ideas:
- Correspondence biases and fundamental attribution errors are everywhere. I’m discovering that I’ve been putting on an act, sure of what someone else is really thinking and feeling—less so with bold gestures and more so in subtle ways. My ZK helped me uncover this character flaw.
- Learning applications of the evolving frontier of AI is keeping me busy reading. Learning about using AI to 'talk to the duck,' a sort of thinking partner. How token sequencing and next token prediction in the probability space results in a butterfly effect. How 'in-context learning' leads to more original and task-specific responses. For some unrecognized reason, this led me to the fundamental attribution error.
- I am so close to being able to put some of my notes on the web. It is working on localhost:8080. Getting the CSS to work is a pain in the css.
- I’ve started sketching again.
- I’m feeling frail and melodically. "Like everything alive, I was meant to be split open, to blossom, to be sucked, to be eaten, to lean, to bend, to wither, to die and die and die until I died." - Marie Howe
Books I’m reading or read this week:
- Dicks, Matthew. Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life Through the Power of Storytelling. New World Library, 2018. Bookshare
- Gröpl, Edmund. MAKE USEFUL NOTES. A simple guide to a complex skill by using Sketchnotes, Obsidian, and Zettelkasten, 2023. PDF
- Howe, Marie. New and Selected Poems. W. W. Norton & Company, 2024.

The "My rolling 16-day zettel production" is produced by a script for attachment to my daily journaling template. I do my journaling in Bear to keep personal journaling separate from my knowledge work.
Let me know if you would like to see, discuss, or critique any of these notes.

I hope my contribution is helpful, and I’m sure you have even better ideas.

My zettelkasten is for my ideas, not the ideas of others. I don’t want to waste my time tinkering with my ZK; I’d rather dive into the work itself. My peak cognition is behind me. One day soon, I will read my last book, write my last note, eat my last meal, and kiss my sweetie for the last time.
