Notes as Building Blocks: My Project for a Connected Life
I often see notes with much longer text passages.
When I look at a physical index card in A6 format, the content wouldn’t fit on it.
Personally, I like to print out notes, so I also try to fit the content of a note onto an A6 index card in the digital version.
If the topic requires it, I create an extension with a reference and link it to the extended note.
I see my notes, which I call blocks, as parts of a larger system.
They must stand alone as a closed unit but also function as part of a structure.
My approach is as follows:
I have different types of notes (information) that enter my system.
First, they go into the “gate” where the sorting process takes place.
After the initial review, I distribute them to the appropriate section.
Short notes that are no longer useful go into the trash.
Short notes with some value move to my workspace.
In the workspace, they are processed into a note for long-term storage, based on specific requirements.
My goal is always to create a block or a long-term note.
For this, I have a clear definition and fulfillment of criteria.
For communication outside my system, I use documents in A5 size.
These can be presented to the world as single sheets or as a commonplace book.
I am currently working on a system that manages my blocks both analog and digitally.
It is not a hybrid system but rather a synchronized solution.
Is anyone else working with a similar principle?
I have been thinking about this system intensively for some time.
In doing so, I realize that many things are significant—apparently not consciously thought-through handling aspects.
For example, I use the cards in landscape format as the base card, and the cards are then rotated diagonally from the bottom right to the top left, transitioning into portrait format.
At first, I didn’t believe it would make sense, but such considerations do prove meaningful.
Is anyone working on a similar topic?
I would love to exchange ideas. I don’t want to stay in my own tunnel.
This is a project where I aim to illustrate life in a box.
There is a concept, and there are already storage objects like boxes, a workflow system, and many category cards.
Does anyone have the interest and motivation to help move this project forward?
It won’t be hard to notice that the English language is currently a personal barrier for me.
I am working on it and hope to eventually be able to rely on translation tools to overcome this limitation sooner rather than later.
Thank you very much, and best regards from life in a box!

Hi John, I haven't understood the purpose of rotating cards.
I adopt too the principle of notes that are either closed and building blocks for composition of more complex units.
I just wanted to point out that the “small details” matter when developing a system.
For example, the way analog cards are used can make a difference in the workflow.
Here is an illustration to demonstrate this.
The workflow involves flipping the vertical card from the bottom-right corner upward, so it becomes a portrait-format card.
