The mathematical definition of Folgezettel ended with Folgezettel Formalized. The monoid homomorphism is inefficient--the expansion in unary leads to an exponential blowup, but this is of theoretical significance only. If we leave regular languages, there is no blowup. This is a side issue, irrelevant for the main points concerning the distinguished spanning tree and the mnenonic value of Folgezettel. Those points are unaffected.

The Zettel template ended up at https://github.com/flengyel/Zettel. The checklist was removed. A backward-compatible Folgezettel ID format for Zettlr was proposed in another thread; it amounts to replacing the regular expression \d{14} with \w{14,} in Preferences -> Zettelkasten.

My position is that structure notes versus Folgezettel is a false dichotomy. You can have both, and at least one digital ZK editor (Zettlr) can implement both Folgezettel IDs, timestamp IDs or a combination Folgezettel_Timestamp ID in a backward-compatible way (meaning compatible with IDs that match \d{14}).

Do we know where the term Folgezettel originated from? It’s a term Luhmann never used. Just curious to where it came from.

I think Daniel Lüdecke was the first one who used the term.

@perikles The overview page has a table of posts, these are the main contents. If you go to the very bottom of the old posts on our pages, there's an old comment section powered by Disqus, embedded below the regular forum comments. That also was part of the battlefield
