Remote image fetching is not enabled. That's a can of worms we're currently circumnavigating completely.

The short answer is: because they don't prevent it; but that's not very helpful, I know.

This is something I don't want to haphazardly put out, and lo and behold, now you've got malware from a manipulated image from the web. Working with images from the web is on our radar, though.
