Questions about the Zettelkasten Method Flow Diagram
Hey! This flow diagram was introduced in Field Report #5: How I Prepare Reading and Processing Effective Notetaking by Fiona McPherson: I was hoping to discuss/ask some questions regarding it as I was recently processing it. I'm guessing @Sascha will have to speak to this the most. But I am happy to have any others engage… -
Field Report #5: How I Prepare Reading and Processing Effective Notetaking by Fiona McPherson
Field Report #5: How I Prepare Reading and Processing Effective Notetaking by Fiona McPhersonWhen you process a book into your Zettelkasten you should prepare both the book and your Zettelkasten. I set clear expectations and why I am reading a book; I review the table of content to generate a mental map; I review the table… -

Theming suggestions
* Allow font sizes relative to the font size in the settings. In the example below, a font size of 16 in the settings would give the h1 a font size of 24, while a font size of 18 in the settings would give a h1 font size of 27. "h1": { "font": { "size": { "relative": 1.5 } }}, * Allow syntax styling for github-style… -
Re: What ideas are you wrestling with this week? February 2, 2023
Work Blog I'm still working away on the blog I'm doing for young engineers at work, called "It's what you learn after you know it all, that counts". Post #5 is about to go live next week. I find it's taking 10+ hours for each post, which is from 4000 to 8000 words long. The posts rely heavily on my ZK - it's nice to see it… -
Re: A public Zettelkasten
@Sascha: When the topic is limited to one that people are willing to think about in public, and/or when people can write using pseudonyms, self-censorship is not so much of a problem. This is true, I think, on Wikipedia, where most editors are pseudonymous or anonymous, and where some degree of "writing to think" happens… -
Re: Why a Zettlekasten Has No Hierarchy
I agree that the metaphor of different perspectives is helpful here, and @zk_1000 said it in an elegantly simple way. Since I always have to make things more complicated than necessary with a reference to the literature, I will add that the perspective metaphor is also used in the article on the notion of knowledge… -
Re: Share with us what is happening in your ZK this week. September 27, 2024
@ZettelDistraction I put my YAML all in the first line of a note, as follows: id:: Well202410051325 title:: "Well202410051325 Well well well" reference-section-title:: References Note you should use double colons for each "label" plus use "shift + enter" to put all the information in the first bullet point but on multiple… -
Re: Less than 100 notes and already feeling overwhelmed: I need help! :-D
Yes, I literally said that. But I hope the phrase without any ellipses would be like: "the academic environment is about publishing papers, not about doing knowledge work. I think that is a fallacy because knowledge work can be done in a hostile environment. That is my core criticism of the academic world: The work… -
Re: Less than 100 notes and already feeling overwhelmed: I need help! :-D
@Sascha said: Well, you literally said, "the academic environment is about publishing papers, not doing knowledge work." I had to guess what "not doing knowledge work" meant, but thank you for clarifying your position. A lot of good work gets published by academics, so there must be institutions or departments that are not…
