In a Z-fog

I'm having difficulty grasping Z theory .... I'm unsure as to whether Z is for me (me for it) . .. I'd like to build an historical almanac / wiki of my town ... Thumbnail sketches of People, Places, Things, Events. I have a structural scheme / plan on paper. I'm not sure if Z is a good fit for me / this project. I'm also dabbling in Obsidian, but have difficulty grasping the nuts 'n bolts.

  • Seeing a Z in action might help .... Please point me to a basic / simple one. Thank you.

  • I think a Zettelkasten is perfect for what you are trying to do. Your usage, on the surface, seems pretty standard.

Everyone seems to tweak the idea slightly for their own workflow and usage case, so you may have to look at a few and take parts from each. Some need complicated citations and other things, so there may not be a 'simple' one to show that does exactly what you need it to do.

I use a plain-text-file-only approach so hopefully someone else will chime in momentarily with their App/program that shows you exactly how to use that program to do what you want.

  • Here are videos of me and my Zettelkasten and David Epstein's book:

  • Hello David... Thank you for leading me to your video ... I won't pretend that I entirely understood the process you were going through ... I did sense a lot of wrestling between you and Epstein's text. You seem to have a lot more patience than I do... John

  • Can the Zettelkasten approach work with any text? Could one, for instance, perform a Zettelkasten on a more factual book / topic such as "The History of Bagels" or "The Evolution of Football Rules"?

  • Did you make sure that you processed the information on the beginner's page? https://zettelkasten.de/posts/overview/

    I am a Zettler

  • sfast ... A very good point... Thank you.
