Tracking Submissions with Zettelkasten
A lot of what I write is short fiction, and a lot of the process of writing short fiction is submitting it to places for publication. And a big part of that is tracking what stories you've submitted where, whether they were rejected or had edits requested, how long the market took getting back to you, and a host of other… -

Re: Where do you put to-do thoughts?
While I mostly use Zettelkasten to sort out ideas, it's nice to be able to work with ToDos as well, so I've tried a few systems. Here's one approach that works with "The Archive" software. Save each "To Do" as a separate note. Inside each note, include the tag #todo. I usually put it near the top, below the heading. It… -
Re: What kinds of notes do you have in your archive?
That's indeed a good point. I use bibliographical metadata because it's a professional obligation. For the tags, I've been more successful in using them to relate notes to concrete projects (not so much to classify subjects or topics), to differentiate kinds of notes, and to mark "actionable" items (things #todo and… -
Re: What kinds of notes do you have in your archive?
I didn't know this—a bonus. I see your titles contain hints as to what type of note you see before you open it. Your method is more sophisticated than mine, which is more elementary. Thanks for the tip. I'll investigate. The definitions list uses PHP Markdown, and I wonder how Marked 2 and MultiMarkdown play in this space.… -
Re: Do you create question notes?
Thanks for sharing this! This gives me a little bit of confidence. I recently switched to question notes as well but I am still a bit insecure about it. Some time ago I got frustrated with my ZK as I felt I was simply dumping notes from books that I read into it and lost track of what was actually written inside these 700… -
Re: What kinds of notes do you have in your archive?
YAML headers are great because you can make them disappear when previewing the file (with Marked and pandoc, for instance). But I don't like to prepend symbols to the filenames. I'm obsessed with a clean reading of note titles (this is one of the reasons for adopting the serial 4-digit identifiers). I don't even use the… -
Re: Better Journaling with The Archive (and BitBar)
Hi @GeoEng51 . For this particular type of entries, that is, the journal, I am not doing any linking. Journaling for me is meditating on the work process throught the act of writing, not doing deep reflection on the contents. I’ll register, for example: “I read this and that paper today, and I expect this may be useful for… -
Re: Teach me something new...
Here's one thats a WIP... This is purely an area of interest, so definitely not an expert in this area at all! I think I've got the content right in here, but there is still some research to be done, so if anyone is a theoretical physicist and can see I've got a glaring error, by all means correct me! # Black HolesTags:… -
Re: Non-Academic Workflow
I tend to have quite a number of those kind of links as well. I try to organize them by topic, for instance 'YAML' or 'Knowledge management tools' in a single Zettel about this topic. This Zettel does not only hold links, but are a starting point for other Zettels as well. So I have follow-up Zettels in which I explore…
