How the Barbell Method of Reading and Note-Making Saved My Life.
When I started my ZK in 2018, I adopted the Barbell Method of Reading as my note-taking workflow. I've made only minor tweaks over time. Today, I still adhere to the core idea of reading freely, quickly noting everything that captures my interest, and then revisiting and processing those notes before adding them to my ZK,… -
Re: LaTeX Zettelkasten Project for Mathematicians (and other LaTeX users)
Also note that Pandoc Markdown supports implicit reference links in the following form: Here's a reference to [Example Theorem][] and to [Other Theorem][] in another document.[Example Theorem]: #theorem:example-theorem[Other Theorem]: another_document#theorem:other-theorem This may be the most readable form for the kind of… -
Re: Two Questions about Zettel Structure and MetaData
Herein, at least in part, lies my problem. I don't know what The Archive actually does when I click on a link like [[202406271607]]. I know it shows me the related zettel. However, does it search all the file names in your ZK directory for the one that contains that UID and then return that zettel? Or does it search the… -
Re: Two Questions about Zettel Structure and MetaData
@GeoEng51 In the spirit of simplification, the screenshots of the introduction are still how mine look: https://zettelkasten.de/introduction/#the-anatomy-of-a-zettel Reference definitions go at the bottom, but references and links are being made inline where appropriate. See: # 202406271515 How to make small refactoring… -
Re: Links to studies
Hello, thank you for your answer! Can I just link to the page I got the information from? Because I find it unrealistic to link to every statement unless it is word for word the same (quotes). I haven't seen this anywhere, people have always only linked to the page where the claim is found or the information in general… -
Re: Links to studies
Echoing Sascha's advice: cite everything that does not originate in your head. It pays off quickly. Example: 12 sources that "inspired" a note of your cannot be used productively. You cannot just take one very important sentence, or select a part of the claims in the note . Where are the ones you selected from? An… -
Re: How do you determine what the "parent" of a Zettel is?
@ctietze Maybe I'm underappreciating the parent--child meaning? I'm taking it to mean that the 'parent' note is the source of another note's creation. This isn't related to Folgezettel (but I also don't think the OP was referring to this either?) Practically speaking, it's the same idea that I got from the 'References'… -
Re: How do you handle confusion when reading for a Zettelkasten?
Refactoring to clarify confusion 202110021647 Hang on. The nerdiness is spilling out like a mountain dam bursting. It's about to get thick. I hope you have hip boots handy. Be flexible while having a plan to guide you. Write when your energy is highest. Your writing is the evidence of your thinking. Leave less taxing work… -
Re: GPT4 Zettel Critique Assistant (Robo Zettel Feedback)
@ZettelDistraction, I hope I speak for others on the forum, you are doing a stellar job with this. My saga continues. I now have a sense of why a See Also section is recommended. I sort of have been doing this sometimes, incidentally. My practice is to put links interstitially in the note. The rule I use is 'put the link… -
Re: GPT4 Zettel Critique Assistant (Robo Zettel Feedback)
I just finished capturing the ideas from Bianca Pereira's YouTube video presentation, "Linked Knowledge Does Not Work." A clickbaity title if there ever was one. She does make an uncommon and timely point. I ran them through the Zettel Critique Assistant. Here are the results. This turns out to be a worthwhile exercise.…
