Maybe Luhmann was just having fun with word plays:
"Geist im Kasten" could be a reference to "Geist in der Flasche" (genie in the bottle).
Two zettels earlier (ZK II 9/8,1) in the same Zettelfolge there's another word play:
"Zettels Wirklichkeit" could be a reference to Arno Schmidt's "Zettels Traum". That book title is another word play. Zettel is the name of the person who has the dream. And Zettels as paper sheets play an important role in the development and content of Schmidt's book. "Zettels Wirklichkeit" (Zettel's reality) contrasts with "Zettels traum" (Zettel's dream).
Branch ZK II 9/8 was the basis for Luhmann's paper Kommunikation mit Zettelkästen. It has a tongue-in-cheek quality, because it presents the Zettelkasten at the same time as an inanimate thing and as a capable communication partner.
The title Kommunikation might be yet another reference. In this case to a core element of his system theory.
I think Luhmann had a jolly good time when he was preparing and writing that article. :-)
