Two Questions about Zettel Structure and MetaData
I am reviewing the structure I use for my zettels, mainly to provide some agnosticism in the software I use to read and edit them. I have two questions about this and would welcome comments from forum members. 1. Important MetaData Several years ago, after reading through comments on this forum, I settled on the following… -
Re: Being stuck with the conception of permanent note
Really good comments from those who have already posted replies. I have a simple (~400 note) ZK, in which I accumulate notes slowly, (I've been working on this for 3+ years). To fit my pace of writing and needs, I also have a simple workflow. I use @Will 's Keyboard Maestro macro to create a note, whenever I have an idea I… -
Re: If you asked me last week, I'd have told you I had a dozen or so orphaned zettel.
@Will I try to track that as I go along using the tag "#Unlinked". That tag gets applied as part of the zettel creation macro I "borrowed" from you, that is, every new zettel has that tag included. I don't remove it until there are at least two outbound links. And every week or so I do a search on that tag, and process a… -
Re: Share the ideas dancing in your ZK with us. February 17, 2023
@AWomanThinking Welcome to the forum - I hope you find much to read and digest here, in addition to anything else you are reading. I've been a Zettelkaster for about 3 years and have found the discussions and suggestions on the forum to be very useful in working on my ZK. I agree with @Will that an essential element is… -
Re: How "closely" must a slip be linked to the index?
@Will - Thanks for sharing your hub notes; looks like a solid engineering/Stoicism mindset to me. When I refer to "index", I'm referring to a page of entry points into the Zettelkasten according to where I'd like to "plug into the Matrix". These entry points are often what you refer to as Hub notes, but if a subject is… -
Re: What physical steps do you take when linking existing Zettels to a new one?
Thanks for sharing your process, @GeoEng51 ! There are a few points I'll test out in my own Zettelkasten process: * Using tags to aid in linking. I personally prefer to use a dedicated Index, but seeing how your tags aid in linking to Zettels helps me see how I can leverage tags myself. I'm not using them at all in my… -
Re: Proximity Search in The Archive surfaces rich link candidates when creating new notes
@Will This looks pretty cool! I watched the video and can see how you are using the results of the Macro. I tried downloading the macro, changing the folder path, and running it. I started with 2 terms I knew were close by in several zettels: Instead of completing, I got the following message: Could you help me to figure… -
Re: What physical steps do you take when linking existing Zettels to a new one?
@Mach3Maelstrom * As I "complete" each zettel, I make sure it has a thorough set of tags, including one called "#unlinked". * Depending on time and interest, I may make some initial links to the zettel I've just completed, rather randomly I admit. * Every week I spend time on ZK maintenance. One of those is to search for… -
Re: If you asked me last week, I'd have told you I had a dozen or so orphaned zettel.
@GeoEng51, thanks for the tip. You've mentioned this before, and it didn't resonate as it does now. I'm implementing a #Unlinked tag alongside my other prompts in my zettel creation template so that when I get my ZK 'cleansed,' I can keep my Zk looking like a home rather than an orphanage. I think I'll remove the #Unlinked… -
Re: Feeding the Beast
Welcome! First, let me say that "feeding the beast" is NOT a Zettelkasten requirement. I work on my ZK almost daily but I process only 1 or 2 ideas most days. There are other things to do in life besides just work on a ZK. Be careful of "ZK burnout". Be patient, work slowly and steadily, and you will find that your ZK…
